First off, this movie will make you want to move to Louisiana. If there’s one consistency in all the movies made from Nicholas Sparks books, they all show off the lush beauty of the deep south.

The Notebook this is not. But chances are it’ll still be a must-see for romantiholics. The premise is a good one. An all grown-up and beefed-up Zac Efron is a Marine who believes his life was saved in combat by a photo he found in the rubble of several near-misses he survived. When he finally heads home after several tours of duty, suffering from post-traumatic stress, he searches for his guardian angel.

Of course you know how this ends from the get-go. It’s very formulaic. There are plot holes the size of football fields. Still, Efron is effective and has great chemistry with the unknown Taylor Schilling. Blythe Danner is fun as her feisty grandmother- but she’s really young enough to play Schilling’s mom.

You know what to expect with a Nicholas Sparks story. Memo to reluctant men: remember guys, these movies put her in the mood.
